MARTERIALENMIX
Here is a link to my material research, including bending bamboo, and soft robotics.
After a lot of delibiration, we came to a plan that deviated a lot from the research, but fitted the study better.
The sketches, and plan
The idea is to use angled mirrors, at an even part of 360 degrees, to emulate a taleidoscopic effect.
Yes, Taleidoscopic, not Kaleidoscopic.
The difference lies, in the fact that kalei, comes from the ancient greek for beads, which you view through these two mirrors, as opposed to Taleidocope, which doesnt have the beads.
The two mirrors, are looked alongside the surface, and therefore get the chance to endlessly reflect in themselves.
The execution
I couldn't resist trying a little etching, seen as I was using etching plates to begin with...
The glueing process was quite complex, as the sides arent parallel.
for the wedges i split my original design in two, as to have a variable depth.
For the glueing of the two symetrical parts, I used gravity to my advantage.
Finally, i redid my sawed fronts.
This time in copper!
To be continued!
next time, I will be folding the metal, and making screwholes, and inserting the screws!
Cutting off the ends with a chisel..
I have some pics of the finished product here, will be adding more later.
What still needs to be done for next time:
install glass window,
adjust screws on the side,
Rethink wedge system, it worked, but can be smarter..
