So i decided I want to be able to track the moon in the form of a clock.
Seen the moon is a regular hardly changing thing, this should be able to be done with just a clock. For added complexity i want to try to implement a WiFi-Module, just so i can make sure it keeps itself in check with the actual moon phase.
For the mechanics, there are two main aproaches i have thought of.
2 Dimensional moon-phase clock
First is the 2-dimensional version, where the slices of the moon are divided over a flat surface, and can each individually light up to form a part of the moon.
The result would be similar to the picture above, with a somewhat "vectorized" look.
This could be handy in places where space is tight, like perhaps a digital pocket-watch.
3Dimensional moon-phase clock
This is my preferred idea, to have a proper wall sized clock, something for in a grand entrance or something similar.
a 3D version would be a much nicer simulation i think, otherwise it might as well be an app.. on your phone. :)
So also the gradient of shadowplay will be much more interesting.
The intention will be to make it a soft gradient.
here is a little indicator experiment:
